Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy Print Page

Program Overview

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who are competent in a prescribed range of beauty therapy treatments and services, including:

  • Facial massage
  • Lash and brow treatments
  • Nail technology services
  • Make-up, waxing
  • Body massage,
  • Aaromatherapy and;
  • As well as providing advice on and selling retail skin care and cosmetic products.

Work would be undertaken as skilled beauty therapists in the beauty therapy services stream of the beauty industry.


Program Requirements and Prerequisites

Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee you entry into this course.

Some courses receive more applications than the number of places available. In this situation we will also assess your education, work and other relevant experience.

If you do not meet the minimum requirements you may be eligible for one of our special admission programs. We also encourage you to explore our study pathways to help you reach your goal.

      Skills Recognition Online Tool

      If you have worked for a period of time and feel confident that you can do a particular job, but don't have a formal qualification, then Skills Recognition (RPL) will benefit you.

      A Skills Recognition online tool is available for this qaulification, which means that you can complete the process in your own time at your own pace. The online tool can be accessed here.


        Workplace Health & Safety

        Your health and wellbeing during your study with Victoria Polytechnic is of the highest importance to us.  It is important that you are aware of health and safety when you are attending workshops or practical labs at Victoria Polytechnic and in the workplace. Victoria Polytechnic requires students in this course to complete an course induction including Health and Safety and you are required to adhere to the Victoria University Health and Safety policy and procedures whilst on any Victoria University or Polytechnic campus.

          The combination of class room and practical exercises means you will graduate with skills needed to work as a competent and work ready beauty therapist.


            Program Structure

            To qualify for the SHB40115 Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy, students must complete a total of nineteen (19) units, consisting of:

            • 13 core units
            • 6 elective units, consisting of:
              • 3 units from the list below
              • 3 units from the list below, elsewhere in SHB Training Package, or any other current Training Package or accredited course.

            Core units:

            Apply cosmetic tanning products


            Provide body massages


            Provide body treatments


            Provide lash and brow services


            Provide facial treatments and skin care recommendations


            Provide waxing services


            Design and apply make-up


            Provide manicure and pedicare services


            Research and apply beauty industry information


            Conduct salon financial transactions


            Provide salon services to clients


            Comply with organisational requirements within a personal services environment


            Apply safe hygiene, health and work practices

            Elective units:

            Provide specialised facial treatments


            Design and apply make-up for photography


            Design and apply remedial camouflage make-up
